Samruddhi Expway Pkg 14 – Viaduct 2

Igatpuri, Maharashtra

Project Overview

Being a Part of Samruddhi Mahamarg, Nagpur Mumbai Expressway connecting the geographical center of India at Nagpur to the financial center of India at Mumbai. Package 14 of this expressway starts from Igatpuri and ends in Vashala and contains major viaducts and tunnels which cross the lush and beautiful terrain of Western Ghats mountain range.

Viaduct 2 with a total length of 1300m contains balanced cantilever ribbed box girder spans of 98m. With pier heights ranging from 40m to 60m and 600 meters of structural continuity, viaduct 2 soars over the valleys and mountains of Igatpuri. Twin leaf piers provide flexibility so that seismic and thermal action are greatly reduced.

The structure is designed for a driving speed of 150 kmph carrying 3 lanes of traffic on each carriageway. A number of key innovations were carried out like annular open foundation, twin leaf type pier and stepped and sloped abutments to minimise disturbance to environment and to generate efficiency.
