To augment the capacity of state highway from Nandurbar to Khetia, this bridge across mighty river Tapi is one of the longest bridge in the region. Being a critical bridge of the complete road project, Force SE was appointed to carry out the detailed engineering and evolve the most economic and construction friendly solution.
Located very close to the Prakasha dam, this bridge experiences a large depths and velocity of water. The heights of pier range from 20 to 28m. In order to have higher inertia and less material consumption, hollow piers with water cuts were adopted and same were built using jumpform construction technique. With exposed igneous basalt rock near the surface, the bridge rests on open raft foundations.
The superstructure comprises of post tensioned I girders launched using tandem cranes during dry season. Box type abutments with multiple compartments is provided to retain significant height of earth at the approaches which in turn is scour protected with boulder pitching
