Ganga River Bridge

Uttar Pradesh

Project Overview

The bridge is a landmark structure part of Expressway from Meerut to Prayagraj. Boasting twin 6 lane carriageways, the structure provides seamless connection between two banks of mighty river Ganga for a total length of 1000m.

Challenge of construction in continuous flowing waters of Ganga river within strict time frame for the client was eased by a innovative design concept. The unique structural configuration of 42.5m I-girders resting on precast pre-stressed cantilever pier cap is provided to mimic the behavior of a continuous superstructure, whilst being simply supported in construction sequence. Using this method, 42.5m precast I girders were able to span a length of 60m between piers.

The pier cap comprises of top level of deck supported over the prestressed cantilever I- beams, which also support the 42.5m span girders, these pier cap Beams are integral to twin leaf pier with 1.5m dia pile foundation.  On the bank of river, counterweight box type abutment is provided to resist the effects of asymmetric superstructure loads.
