Tirupati Smart City Corporation Limited (TSCCL) is engaged under the implementation of Smart City Proposal of Tirupati and as part of this endeavour, it has been decided to undertake beautification of streets & Elevated Corridor, including Streetscape Design, Landscaping, and Intersection Redesign in the city of Tirupati. The project mainly consists of two parts:

  1. Redevelopment of existing streets as Smart streets
  2. Elevated corridor on Alipiri bypass road

Force was associated with AFCONS Infrastructure Ltd. from pre-tender stage and after award of EPC contract, was selected as detailed designer for all structures. The scope includes ROB, elevated rotary, multiple ramps, underpasses and approximately 7km long elevated corridor running from the heart of city.

The main viaduct runs on a standard span of 40m with a divided carriageway of 16.6m width. Expansion joints are spaced at every 200m to ensure smooth ride quality. Keeping in mind the stringent aesthetic requirements from client, limited working space and faster construction requirement from contractor, Spine and wing type superstructure is proposed.

During geotechnical investigation, the sub-soil strata was carefully examined to assess the feasibility of open foundations, as against pile foundations proposed during pre-tender stage. Open foundations were finally concluded and designed by Force and approved by client, yielding significant savings of time and cost for the contractor.

Elastomeric bearings were provided to support spine and wing superstructure which were designed to act as base isolation system under seismic event, leading to a smarter engineering solution with lower cost.
