project description

The Project Expressway is forming part (Package-14) of Nagpur - Mumbai Super Communication Expressway and shall be Six Lane divided carriageway with fully access controlled. It is commencing from Taranganpada-Pimpri Sadroddin village at Km 623.379 and ends at Vashala bk. village at Km 636.479 passing through Green Field area in the state of Maharashtra. The design length of the project Expressway (Package-14) is 13.100 km.

The project includes 2 nos. more than 1000m long viaducts and elevated interchanges for connection to important cross roads. The project also includes few box and pipe culverts. Force SE is responsible for detailed engineering of all structures.

Viaduct 1 comprises of structurally continuous PSC I girders of 35m span, made composite with the cast in place concrete deck slab. The superstructure is resting on portal pier which in turn is resting on open raft foundations with hard basaltic rock as founding strata.

Viaduct 2 comprises of 100m span balance cantilever structures. The maximum height of pier is around 55m making it a challenge to design the substructure. Twin leaf piers are proposed to reduce the thermal effects and at the same time ensuring the strength of substructures. With presence of hard rock at shallow depths, the bridge is resting of open foundations.
